William Beardsmore was an ironmaster who had his business in Glasgow, Scotland. just before the ourbreak of the First World War his company diversified its operations into aircraft and aero-engine manufacture. After the Armistice the company recommenced building aircraft and aero-engines at Dalmuir and Parkhead. Using Rohrbach patents the company built the giant Infelxible aeroplane and manufatured the engines for the ill-fated R101 airship. At Renfrew airport the company ran a flying school for the Air Ministry and the Auxiliary Air Force. All aviation activities ceased by 1930.
